4 Thoughts on Biblical Manhood
The church needs men of God.
The man of God is not perfect, but he’s faithful.
A man of God is a sum of what defines him.
1. The man of God is defined by what he flees from.
Do you run to sin or away from sin? 1 Cor. 6:18 & 1 Cor. 10:14
What am I going to flee from?
We think of two stories from the Old Testament: Joseph & Potiphar’s Wife vs David & Bathsheba
2. The man of God is defined by what he pursues after.
We need to pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, and gentleness. If we spend our lives pursuing these things we will grow in these areas.
We can not run from one thing effectively without running to something that is able to save us from what we are fleeing from.
Jesus is the only thing that will fulfill us or sustain us.
How do we pursue righteousness, godly faith, love, steadfastness, and gentleness?
By Pursuing Christ.
3. The man of God is defined by what he fights for.
We need men in churches fighting for what Christ fought for
Fight to the death for these things
The difference between knowing when to flee or when to fight is critical.
4. The man of God is defined by what he is holding on to.
Take hold of eternal life
Jesus displayed this in the good confession before Pontius Pilate.
God has called us to eternal life.
Theologians have talked about this tension the “already not yet”.
There are certain responsibilities that are already here and certain benefits from a relationship with Jesus that we already receive.
Then there are certain things that are not yet a reality. There are things that are waiting for us in eternity. This should motivate us.
Romans 12:1-2 teaches us two things about eternity:
Commitment to Jesus must be total. 80% is not good enough.
Committing 100% only makes sense. We can not have a negotiated commitment to the Lord.
We must pursue Christ in ALL we do.
