Being made new — a word from Kilby

Okay, you know that feeling when you go outside and work for a really long time. Or when you play basketball or football. The feeling when you come back sweaty, gross and greasy. If you are in a hurry, what do you do? You just put some deodorant or perfume/cologne and wait ’til later. We all know how long that lasts — not long at all!
But say you come inside, shower, wash your hair (if you have any to wash) and put on some fresh clothes. We all know this method works a million times better and lasts WAY longer. So why am I telling you this?
Well, this is how it is with our lives. Before Christ, we are a mess! We are bruised, cut up and weary. We always have a hole in ours lives. We try to fill it with worldly possessions — money, sports, school, etc. But do these things last? No, never. They are only temporary; and sometimes, they leave even bigger gaps than the before! Just like the deodorant or perfume you put on.
But once we truly, fully accept Christ, He permanently fills our gap — for good. He brings you such peace and happiness! He will cleanse you and make you new! He will remove your bruises, heal your wounds and strengthen your soul and mind. We need to grasp this and understand it. This is one of my favorite Bible teachings yet!

Be Strong — Part 2: Love God, Love His Word

One of the most important and eternal investments a man can make into his family is his personal love of God’s Word. It is one thing to force his kids to conform to the standard of God’s Word. But it is another thing entirely to teach them to love it. Forced submission will often end in rebellion, or it may go the other direction and end in legalism. We need to first LOVE Christ, then love His Word. We need to teach it AND example it.

Here is a sermon clip from Session Two of the BE STRONG conference.

Be Strong — Part 1

The 2012 Be Strong Conference was the most well-attended men’s event we have ever done. I want to share some of the highlights over the next few days. All of the main sessions are available on Snowbird’s podcast.

One of the goals of the conference was to motivate men to just be and do what God has plainly called them to. We weren’t trying to do anything “abnormal” or radical. With that as a goal, we wanted to be challenging but also extremely practical. In achieving practicality, during Session One we looked at some examples from scripture of men who fought to be the men God wanted them to be. This requires a maniacal abandonment of societies’ parameters and rules. God doesn’t expect us to conform to social culture, rather he calls us to conform to Christ.

For us, these conferences and the challenges they bring are a welcome relief from the constant of student ministry. As we labor to disciple young people, the largest obstacle we face is a lack of leadership in their homes, churches and lives. We really are passionate about getting to challenge the would-be leaders of the church and families.

We love to see men realize and embrace the call of God on their lives in this generation.

Stay faithful — a word from Kilby

The other day, Tucker (my brother) had a football game. He was so hopeful and pumped up for the game. The only score made the entire game was from Tucker! The opposing team — Murphy — had double. But even after the game… I knew: Tucker was just happy that he was the One — the scorer (if that is a word).

And I don’t care that he lost. I know that he is happy. Tucker and me are close, and I know what that touchdown meant to him.

We are so awful at this: We say we are Christians, but when there is a trial, what do we do? What needs to happen is you love and serve Christ faithfully.
When you are in trials, or are the only one, still pursue hard after Christ! He will not “shun” you. You are His creation — He adores you. WOW! Just think, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, the Sustainer and the Satisfier loves you so much! What an amazing gift and honor. Don’t blow it!

Make WAR

Purity Retreat from Snowbird Wilderness Outfitters on Vimeo.

We are excited to promote the SWO13 Purity Conference, “Make War, Not Love- A Violent Fight for Purity.” Plan to attend and register soon. Last year’s event sold out and this one is filling up fast.

The focus this year is from 1 Corinthians 15:1-2 — “Now I would remind you, brothers, of the Gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you – unless you believed in vain.”

The trend in purity events over the past twenty years has been centered around the commitments people make. The goal is worthy, but the focus must be the Gospel. Scripture is clear that our lives are defined by CHRIST’S righteousness; and the holiness we live in is by Him and for Him.

Our goal in this conference will be to drive students deeper into the truth of the Gospel and to point them toward the realization of purity through the power of the Gospel, not because they have the strength or the pressure to “commit” to purity. Christ is already committed to it. He is in me. That is the hope of glory. That is the hope of the Gospel. That is the hope for pure lives.

See you in February.
